What is it? It is a partial displacement of the upper end of the radius, one of the bones of the forearm, within the elbow. It is popularly known as "nursemaid's elbow" and frequently occurs after a pull on the arm.

Common symptoms: The child stops moving the affected arm, keeps it against the body slightly bent, and cries when trying to use it, usually without evident swelling.

When to see a doctor? If a child doesn't want to move the arm after a pull or fall, the advisable thing is a medical evaluation to examine the elbow carefully and rule out other injuries.
