The dental checkup or evaluation is an assessment appointment in which the condition of the teeth, gums, and mouth is examined to find out their status and what care is needed.
What is it for? It allows for detecting cavities, gum problems, or wear in the early stages and planning, if needed, a cleaning or other treatment.
What does it include? It usually covers a visual exam of the mouth and, depending on the case, a conversation about discomfort or hygiene habits.
Who performs it? It's carried out by a dentist (odontólogo), and in minors, a pediatric dentist may see the patient. It's best to schedule with a dentist you trust for a calm, thorough evaluation.
