When it's important to know how much and how a joint moves, goniometry is used — a measurement of joint range of motion using an instrument called a goniometer.
What is it for? It makes it possible to document a joint's mobility and track its progress during a rehabilitation process.
When is it indicated? It's frequently used after injuries, surgeries, or in cases of limited movement, as part of a functional assessment.
Who performs it? It's carried out by physical therapists, sports medicine physicians, and related therapists. If you notice stiffness or loss of mobility, a physician can measure it and guide your recovery.
