An abnormal Pap smear or colposcopy can lead to treatment of cervical lesions: electrocoagulation, cryocoagulation, or thermocoagulation of the cervix destroys the abnormal tissue by applying controlled heat or cold.

What to expect? It is an outpatient procedure that is relatively quick; afterward, mild discharge or discomfort may occur for a few days.
