Cervical conization, or cone biopsy, is a gynecological procedure that removes a cone-shaped portion of the cervix, for diagnostic purposes, treatment, or both.

When is it indicated? Usually after an abnormal Pap smear or a colposcopy that detects lesions that need to be studied or removed.

What does it include? In addition to removing the tissue, the sample obtained is analyzed to clarify the diagnosis.

Who performs it? It is carried out by a gynecologist. If you have a cytology result that needs clarifying, it is best to review it with your gynecologist, who will indicate whether this procedure is necessary in your case.

Before you book

  • Every licensed doctor in Mexico holds a cédula profesional, a national licence number. It appears on our doctor profiles where we have it, and you can verify it yourself against the federal registry.
  • Ask exactly what a quoted price covers. Consultation, imaging, anaesthesia, materials and follow-up visits are often quoted separately.
  • Ask who handles follow-up once you are home, and what happens if something needs correcting. For treatment that spans several visits, agree the schedule before you travel.

El Doctor is a directory. We do not provide medical care, take bookings, or receive payment from the providers listed.
