Cystoscopy is a study that allows the inside of the bladder and urethra to be viewed using a thin instrument with a camera called a cystoscope.

What is it for? It helps investigate urinary symptoms such as blood in the urine, repeated infections, or discomfort when urinating, by directly observing the urinary tract.

What to expect? The cystoscope is inserted through the urethra with lubricant and, depending on the case, local anesthesia; it usually takes a few minutes.

Which specialist performs it? It's performed by the urologist, and the gynecologist may request it in certain cases; the general practitioner guides the initial assessment. It's wise to discuss your symptoms with a professional to see if the study is necessary.

Before you book

  • Every licensed doctor in Mexico holds a cédula profesional, a national licence number. It appears on our doctor profiles where we have it, and you can verify it yourself against the federal registry.
  • Ask exactly what a quoted price covers. Consultation, imaging, anaesthesia, materials and follow-up visits are often quoted separately.
  • Ask who handles follow-up once you are home, and what happens if something needs correcting. For treatment that spans several visits, agree the schedule before you travel.

El Doctor is a directory. We do not provide medical care, take bookings, or receive payment from the providers listed.
