What does an endodontist do?

They diagnose and treat damaged or infected pulp, mainly through root canal treatment, which cleans and seals the inside of the tooth. In this way they seek to eliminate the discomfort and preserve the tooth in the mouth.

When to seek care?

• Intense dental pain or prolonged sensitivity to cold or heat.
• Deep cavities or trauma that compromise the tooth's nerve.
• Inflammation or a swelling around a tooth.

A note

Procedures such as braces, dental cleaning, whitening, or the management of gingivitis and periodontitis fall to other areas of dentistry, such as orthodontics or periodontics. The endodontist focuses specifically on the inside and the root of the tooth.
