Underbite

Underbite, also known as an anterior crossbite, is a change in the way the teeth fit together, in which the lower teeth end up in front of the upper ones when the mouth closes.

Common symptoms: Teeth that don't line up properly when biting, difficulty chewing or pronouncing certain sounds, and, in some cases, tension in the jaw.

Common causes: It may be due to the position of the teeth, differences in the growth of the jaws, or habits during childhood.

Which specialist treats it? The orthodontist is the one who evaluates and corrects how the teeth and the bite relate to each other; the maxillofacial surgeon steps in when the bones of the face are involved, and the pediatric dentist treats the youngest patients.
