Salpingitis

Salpingitis is inflammation of the fallopian tubes, generally from an infection that ascends from the genital tract. It is part of what is known as pelvic inflammatory disease and, without treatment, it can affect fertility.

Common symptoms: pain in the lower abdomen, abnormal vaginal discharge, fever, and discomfort during sexual intercourse.

Common causes: sexually transmitted infections and other germs that reach the tubes.

When should you seek care? In the case of persistent pelvic pain or fever accompanied by discharge, it is advisable not to postpone the review, since early treatment of salpingitis helps prevent complications. The gynecologist or the gynecologic oncologist are the appropriate professionals to evaluate it and provide follow-up.
