Enterobius Vermicularis

Enterobius vermicularis infection, known as pinworm infection, is a very common intestinal parasitosis, especially in childhood, caused by a small worm that lives in the large intestine. It is one of the most common parasitoses and is easily transmitted among close contacts.

Common symptoms: itching in the anal region, especially at night, disrupted sleep and irritability; in many cases the discomfort is mild.

Common causes: transmission occurs by bringing the parasite's eggs to the mouth, which pass from one person to another or through contaminated objects and hands.

Who should you see? The gastroenterologist, and in children the pediatric gastroenterologist, can provide guidance on this condition. If there is persistent nighttime itching in the anal area, especially in children, a professional evaluation is advisable.
