Ormond Disease

Ormond disease, also known as retroperitoneal fibrosis, is a rare disorder in which fibrous tissue forms in the back of the abdomen. This tissue can compress nearby structures, such as the ducts that carry urine from the kidneys.

Possible manifestations: Pain in the lower back, flanks, or abdomen, urinary discomfort, or swelling in the legs, which usually develop gradually.

When to seek care? Persistent lower back or abdominal pain without an apparent cause, along with changes in urination, deserves an evaluation.
