Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)

A TIA, or transient ischemic attack, is a brief interruption of blood flow to a part of the brain that causes temporary neurological symptoms, which usually resolve in a short time without leaving obvious aftereffects.

Warning signs: Sudden weakness or numbness on one side of the body, difficulty speaking or understanding, vision changes, or momentary loss of balance.

Why is it important? Even though the symptoms go away, a TIA is a warning sign that should not be ignored, since it indicates a risk that is worth evaluating.

Which specialist assesses it? Its study falls to neurology, often in coordination with emergency care. When there is any symptom of this type, even if it goes away on its own, seeking medical care immediately is the most responsible decision.
