She completed her general medicine studies at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional and did her postgraduate rotating internship at Hospital General de México. At Hospital Infantil de México Federico Gómez she completed her specialty in Medical Pediatrics from 1985 to 1987 and then in Clinical Allergy and Immunology from 1987 to 1989. Due to her great interest in research she completed a diploma in research and was accepted, based on her scientific output, as a researcher at the national health institutes, rising to her current level of SNI 2. Throughout her academic career she has received important research recognitions. These include an honorable mention in the undergraduate internship and in the pediatrics residency exam, as well as the yearly awards for scientific productivity granted by the coordination of the Institutos Nacionales de Salud from 2005 to date. She received the Aaron Saenz Award for best article in 2013 and 2015. The World Allergy Organization (WAO) granted her Allergy and Clinical Immunology service, which she directs, the designation of Center of Excellence in Allergy from 2016 to 2019. Her research lines are: 1.-Immunostimulants for the prevention of Acute Respiratory Infections, asthma epidemiology, Asthma and metabolic syndrome, candidate genes in asthma and/or Obesity in the Mexican population. She has been part of the Cochrane group since 2006 to date, being the author of the first meta-analysis carried out in Mexico, in the systematic review of immunostimulants for the prevention of respiratory infection in children. Dr. del Rio has been a Professor of the Specialty in Clinical Immunology and Allergy at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México since 2000 and has directed more than 50 theses of her students, whom she has helped graduate in Allergy and Clinical Immunology. She has published more than 150 national and international articles and has more than 2,000 citations. She has organized and led more than 12 continuing medical education courses on topics of allergic respiratory diseases and selected topics in otorhinolaryngology (with curricular credit from the Consejo Mexicano de Certificación en Pediatría y Alergia). As president of the Asociación de Médicos del Hospital Infantil de México, she organized two national pediatric congresses (2010-2012). Regarding her professional activity, she was chief resident during her specialty training in pediatrics and allergy. She began her work as a staff physician in the Allergy and Clinical Immunology service at Hospital Infantil in 1989 and is its current head. She has been a member of ethics and research committees at Hospital Infantil and now is part of that hospital's teaching committee. She is a professor of the university course of the specialty in clinical immunology and pediatric allergy at the Universidad Autónoma de México since 2000. She was president of the Consejo Nacional de Inmunología Clínica y Alergia (CONICA) from 2014 to 2016. Former president of the Colegio Mexicano de Pediatras Especialistas en Inmunología Clínica y Alergica from 2018 to 1020. She is currently a level F researcher and SNI2 at the Hospital Infantil in Allergy and is in charge of the Clinical Allergy and Immunology service.
