About the Doctor

I am a pediatric surgeon with a special interest in congenital malformations of the digestive tract. These are diseases whose management should involve a multidisciplinary team that includes gynecologists for prenatal diagnosis, neonatologists, a surgeon experienced in congenital malformations, and occasionally other specialists. To achieve ideal results it is recommended to involve the entire team from before birth, in order to properly plan the delivery at a hospital center that has all the tools necessary for management, taking hospital costs into account. At the same time, the prenatal consultation serves to answer questions about the expected course of each disease. Another special interest of our team is vascular anomalies, which include management of infantile hemangiomas, venous and lymphatic malformations (known as lymphangiomas). Their current management is based on sclerotherapy as well as disease-modifying medications, with surgery as a last resort, trying to preserve the function of the affected region as well as taking care of the cosmetic result. The great majority of these conditions require careful follow-up throughout childhood.
