About the Doctor

Dr. Alan Gabriel Contreras Saldivar is a renowned General Surgeon specialized in transplants and liver and bile duct surgery, with more than 20 years of experience. He received his Physician and Surgeon degree from UNAM, where he graduated with honors. He completed his specialty in General Surgery at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Medicas y Nutricion Salvador Zubiran (INCMNSZ). His professional career has focused on: Liver diseases, Liver Cancer, Cirrhosis, Liver Surgery, Liver Transplant, Kidney Transplant, and transplant surgery, just to name a few. He completed graduate studies at the Transplant Research Center at Children's Hospital Boston, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Harvard Medical School. During his time there he received the Fellowship Award in Transplantation from the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Transplantation on two subsequent occasions. He continued his training in Abdominal Multiorgan Transplant at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, United States, one of the largest transplant centers in the world, where he later joined the staff as a liver and transplant surgeon for several years. He later joined the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Medicas y Nutricion Salvador Zubiran (INCMNSZ), where he was part of the medical team that performed the first domino liver transplant in Mexico. He is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores and belongs to various national and international scientific medical societies such as the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, International Liver Transplantation Society, and Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association. He has contributed to more than 100 papers presented at national and international conferences, as well as 30 original articles, 9 book chapters, and serves as a reviewer for several national and foreign scientific medical journals.
